How to make water in gutters flow more efficiently.

Gutters are designed to direct the water off the roof into the downspouts to the ground. When companies who build houses install the gutters. They tend to cheap out on the system and let the new homeowners deal with it. What I have noticed is that the installers install a small downspout with a hole about the size of a toonie. On top of that they do not cut off the little plastic guard that comes attached to it. If your downspouts just drain onto the ground these little screens are not necessary. There are better ways to keep the whole clear from debris by installing a bigger screen overtop. These screens are fairly cheap and just sit over the hole keeping debris from clogging it.

Gutters are meant to make watrer flow from roof to ground. There are many things homeowners can do to help this process. Sometimes it's as easy as installing an extra downspout.
